MARIGOLD (Tagetes)
When I see marigold flowers I am fascinated by its beauty. I remember my visit of MP Ujjain in 2014 where I witnessed the splendid plethora of flowers laid on a vast orange carpet. The view was mesmerizing and I can never forget those moments in my life . It was a vast field and the farmer there had shared his farming experience with me then. I realized, cultivation of flowers is a tough and hardworking job. There is immense effort involved in flower cultivation.
Marigold flowers:- The plant is native to America, growing naturally from the southwestern United States into South America. It is found all over the world.
Marigold flowers mostly occurs in golden, orange, yellow, and white colors, often with maroon highlights. Sometimes known as Calendula.
Mostly farmers use silty clay loam soil for cultivation of the species.
The common name in English, Marigold, is derived from Mary's gold, It comes from Middle English and is composed of the name Mary (in reference to Mary, the mother of Jesus) and the word gold (in reference to the color of the flowers)
Some varieties have musky Scent and some are scentless.
Marigold flowers have been used extensively in manufacture of essential oils and perfumes. So mostly use in perfume industry and food Industry too such as bakery products, dairy products, yogurt, ice cream, vegetable oils, mayonnaise, are some of the uses.
Marigold has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which can help in eradicating wrinkles, pimples, etc. Marigold flowers are used in cosmetics products for blooming skin hence used in moisturizer, toner and some other skin creams and medicine.
This flower has properties which are beneficial for human hair. The elements in it nourishes and keep the hair healthy.
